Today, the mayor and council have announced a citizen-led committee to look at how we could modernize our city council. Everything will be on the table, including the appointment process which Issue 1 ignores. This public process will be open, transparent, and fair.
Like the 2015 marijuana monopoly scheme, Issue 1 was hatched in the dark without public input and pushed on the ballot after special interests spent over $100,000 to pay for petition signatures. Don’t we deserve a voice from the beginning, rather than a half-baked proposal pretending to represent the people?
Let’s get this right, Columbus. Let’s invite everyone to the table. Let’s have a public conversation about our city’s future. And let’s vote together to reject Issue 1 and support a true citizen-led update to our charter.
